The emerging paradigm of Tsetlin machines makes a fundamental shift from arithmetic-based to logic-based machine learning. At the core, finite-state machines, based on learning automata, learn patterns using logical clauses, and these constitute a global description of the task learnt. In this way, the Tsetlin machine introduces the concept of logical interpretable learning, where both the learned model and the process of learning are easy to follow and explain. As a result, it reduces the expertise needed to apply ML techniques efficiently in various domains. The paradigm has enabled competitive accuracey, scalability, memory footprint, inference speed, and energy consumption across diverse tasks, including classification, regression, natural language processing (NLP), and speech understanding.

Best Student Paper Award

Description: This award recognizes the best paper authored primarily by a student and presented by the student at the First International Symposium on the Tsetlin Machine.

Prize: A single award to the student first-author and certificates for all individual authors.

Eligibility: All student papers presented at the ISTM 2025 conference are eligible. There are no restrictions as to organization, nationality, race, creed, sex or age.

Basis for judging: A selection committee will be appointed by the ISTM 2025 Technical Program Committee. Papers are judged based on technical merit, originality, potential impact on the field, clarity of the written paper, and quality of the conference presentation.

Presentation: The award will be announced and presented at the ISTM 2025 conference.
